I love being tattooed and I do consider it a big part of who I am. During a conversation with someone about tattoos and aging, I said something that I never thought deeply about until that moment...
Tattoos, to me, they are like education or confidence. It is a personal gain that once you have it...no one can take it from you. No one can extract the knowledge from my brain, my confidence from my soul, or my tattoos that I use to express my own being. One thing Jimmy said in our banter was "When you get tattooed, you're about to become who you're going to be for the rest of your life." Which fits perfectly with that concept in my opinion.
A: Can you tell a lot about a person by their tattoo choices?
J: "Not necessarily. Tattoos can tell a story but it doesn't always tell someone's PERSONAL story. A lot of people think they can but that's the cool part about it. You can't judge a book by it's cover. You may not even see a majority of a person's tattoos anyway..."
A: Do you find people use tattoos as personal style?
J: "Yes. Tattoos have trends within different cliques of people. They aren't just a statement, they are accessories to some people."
"I'd like to see more flash designs, less google searches. Because what's on the wall is where people used to search for tattoo ideas. It's a lot of great art going to waste. I can't remember the last time I got to use one. But I can tell you the last time I tattooed an infinity sign."
A: What is your favorite tattoo?
J: "It's a rose with my handwriting that says 'Mom, I fucking miss you'."
When I finished asking Jimmy from 51 Tattoo (Area 51) questions he said..."This should be a two part series." He's right. He has a mind full of tattoo history and interesting info but, I'm no writer and he made sure that next time I bring a recorder ;) I'll remember that!
Oh! And here's what was completed! My two thigh pieces, head verse heart. A dedication to anxiety and the constant battle of chaos and order within my thought process.
