Party In Your Parka: Safe & Stylish

by Alison Updyke

Here we go! It's time to celebrate Michigan's Birthday!

The MOST important PSA in this post is the warmth portion. Style can be added in so many other ways but it all starts with the right layers. There are many easy tips to remember for having a great night and not being concerned with the "it's too cold" comments from your friends who can't hang.

Follow this layering chart and see my examples below!

LAYER ONE: WICKING

Thermal Underwear

LAYER TWO: WARMTH

Wool Sweater/Fleece Lined Leggings/Wool Socks

LAYER THREE: WIND

Polyester Down Parka/Waterproof Fleece Lined Boots/Warm Accessories*

Keep reading though because here's more super easy tips!

  • Mittens are warmer than gloves!
  • Stay away from cotton (it holds moisture so sweat gets cold!)
  • Keep clothes somewhat loose (this traps warm air and insulates you)
  • Heat your core first (appendages get cold because your body is trying to warm major organs first)

As for style and accessories: Look at this Pinterest Board.  (Someone please sport the leopard print gloves or those slouchy tassel hoods.)

But seriously, that's all up to you! From scarves to cowls, mittens or gloves, hats and headbands, it's all so specific to what YOU like. I've see so many inspiring choices (that are actually replicable) on the style board. Once you have those layers, you're good to go!
